Skilled Worker visa going rates by occupation code

A Skilled Worker job must pay at least £41,700 or the going rate for its occupation code, whichever is higher. New entrants use 70% of the going rate instead, never below £33,400. This table lists every eligible SOC 2020 code with the figures Appendix Skilled Occupations prints, so the amount here is the amount in the Rules.

261 occupation codes from Appendix Skilled Occupations, Tables 1 and 1a, last updated on GOV.UK 11 November 2025 and read 12 October 2026. Hourly figures on GOV.UK assume a 37.5-hour week; a different working pattern is pro-rated. Sources.

Find your occupation code

Four digits, or a job title. The employer picks the code on the certificate of sponsorship, so ask which one it will use before you rely on a figure.

261 codes shown
Annual figures for a 37.5-hour week. New entrant is 70% of the going rate; the PhD columns are 80% for a relevant science or technology PhD and 90% for a relevant PhD in any other subject. Each is the amount Appendix Skilled Occupations prints for that code, and each has its own floor, explained below.

Which figure applies to you

Going rate
The default. Your salary has to clear this or £41,700, whichever is higher, so a code whose going rate is below £41,700 does not make the job cheaper to sponsor.
New entrant, 70%
For a job that qualifies you as a new entrant: under 27 at application, or switching from a Student or Graduate visa, including one that ended less than 2 years ago even if you have left the UK. The floor is £33,400. It lasts 4 years in total. Who counts as a new entrant.
With a PhD
80% for a PhD in a science or technology subject relevant to the job, 90% for a relevant PhD in any other subject, on codes that earn PhD points. The floors are £33,400 and £37,500.
Lower going rate
Not shown here. GOV.UK prints a second, lower column for people applying for a Health and Care Worker visa in certain occupations, and for anyone whose first certificate of sponsorship was issued before 4 April 2024 who has held a Skilled Worker visa ever since. A graduate applying now reads the going rate.

Open to new applicants, or not

Open
Table 1 of Appendix Skilled Occupations: 91 codes anyone applying now can be sponsored in.
Shortage list
On the Temporary Shortage List in SW 6.1A: 52 mostly medium-skilled codes open to new applicants only while the certificate of sponsorship is issued before 31 December 2026, so by 30 December 2026. After that they close, and a job in one of them stops being a route in.
Existing holders
Table 1a: 118 codes that count only for someone granted permission as a Skilled Worker under the rules in place before 22 July 2025 who has held it continuously since. A first application in one of these codes does not qualify.

What the table cannot tell you

Whether a particular job qualifies. The employer needs a sponsor licence, the salary has to clear the figure above, and the employer has to be willing to sponsor the role. Paste the vacancy and all of it is checked at once, or look the employer up on the register first. To work a figure through with fees on both sides, use the salary and cost calculator.

Questions people ask

What is the going rate for a Skilled Worker visa?

The going rate is the salary the Immigration Rules set for the occupation code the job is sponsored under. A job has to pay that or £41,700, whichever is higher. New entrants use 70% of the going rate instead, and never less than £33,400. The table above gives all three figures for every eligible code.

What is the going rate for occupation code 2134?

For 2134, programmers and software development professionals, the going rate is £54,700, and the new-entrant rate the Rules print is £38,300. Most software engineer and developer titles are sponsored under 2134, but the employer picks the code, so ask which one it will put on the certificate of sponsorship.

How do I find the occupation code for my job?

Search the job title in the table above: it lists the related job titles the Rules print under each code. Titles are examples, not a closed list, and the employer decides. If nothing fits, GOV.UK points to the CASCOT coding tool, and you can still work out a figure on the calculator from any going rate.

What counts towards the salary?

Guaranteed basic gross pay, before income tax and including employee pension and national insurance contributions, plus guaranteed payments treated the same way for tax (Appendix Skilled Worker, SW 14.1). Shift pay, overtime, bonuses and anything that cannot be guaranteed do not count (SW 14.2), so an advertised package can be well above the threshold while the basic salary is below it.

What jobs qualify for a Skilled Worker visa?

Jobs in the occupation codes in Table 1 of Appendix Skilled Occupations, which the table above marks as open, plus the codes on the Temporary Shortage List while a certificate of sponsorship is issued before 31 December 2026. A code alone is not enough: the employer needs a sponsor licence and the salary has to clear the figure for that code.

Are the going rates pro-rated for part-time work?

The published annual figures assume a 37.5-hour week, and GOV.UK pro-rates them for other working patterns based on the weekly hours the employer states. Fewer hours therefore do not lower the £41,700 or £33,400 floor, which is why part-time sponsored roles are rare.
